Specialty Compounding
Curious About Compounding?
Compounding is the exciting art and science of creating personalized medicine.
Sometimes standard medications aren’t the best option for everyone. In some circumstances, your doctor may prescribe something custom-made (compounded) for you. For some this can be life-changing, even lifesaving!
Compounding is a great option to explore for people who:
- Have allergies to common medicine fillers (casein, gluten, dyes, etc.)
- Require a customized dosage or strength (ex. instead of cutting pills in half at home)
- Need an altered form of medicine (ex. trouble swallowing pills & prefer topical treatments such as gels or creams)
- Require better tasting medicine (especially for children)
- Aren’t taking medication as prescribed due to unpleasant side effects
Our Compounding Team Can Customize Your Medication By:
- Avoiding dyes, preservatives, fillers and active ingredients
- Using a variety of flavouring options
- Finding dosage forms that are suitable for each patient
- Preparing topical medications which can avoid side effects of oral medication
- Creating a strength or dosage form which is not commercially available
- Creating unique dosage forms designed for a specific problem
- Preparing unusual strengths, discontinued or back-ordered commercially available products
Have You Been Prescribed A Compound Medication?
To ensure you have a positive experience when filling a compounded prescription, here are a few instructions to kindly take note of:
Please Request Refills 5-10 Days in Advance
Since the compounding process is more involved, it takes longer to prepare than a traditional prescription. That is why we request advance notice. If using our automated phone system to request a refill, please note the provided pick-up/delivery time is incorrect (it doesn’t recognize extra time required for compounds).
You'll be Contacted When It Is Ready
Please listen to any voicemails that we leave as there may be important information or requests!
Direct Billing Is Not Available
Compounds are not commercially available & do not have DIN numbers. Our team cannot directly bill your drug plan. However we will provide you with the info to submit your claim/receipt manually!
